A coordinate is a measurement, not a guarantee.

GPS watermarks are useful when the person reviewing a photo was not at the site. Read the accuracy value with the coordinates so you understand the measurement’s limits.

Read the accuracy radius

A displayed accuracy of ±8 m means the browser estimates the device is within roughly that radius; it does not mean the reading is exact to eight metres. Satellite visibility, Wi-Fi signals, device hardware and browser permissions all affect the result.

Improve the location record

  1. Open the camera outdoors or near an unobstructed window.
  2. Wait for the GPS indicator to move from searching to ready.
  3. Check the accuracy value before capturing a critical frame.
  4. Add a human-readable site or unit label.
  5. Include a context image with recognizable fixed features.

Altitude needs extra caution

Many phones omit altitude, and readings may be much less stable than latitude and longitude. Use it as supplemental context, not as a surveyed elevation. Stamp Camera hides altitude when the browser does not provide it.

QUICK ANSWERS

Frequently asked questions

Why is GPS unavailable?

Location may be disabled, blocked for the site, unavailable indoors, or unsupported in the current browser context. HTTPS is required.

Does Stamp Camera convert coordinates into an address?

Yes. After a usable GPS fix, one automatic lookup sends the current coordinates through the Stamp Camera address endpoint to OpenStreetMap’s Nominatim service. The returned label is cached; entering a site label manually disables automatic lookup.

Is the GPS stored on a server?

The photo record stays in your browser. For address lookup, rounded coordinates and ordinary request information are processed by our server and OpenStreetMap.
